Bayern’s defense suffocates Buducnost

FC Bayern Munich put on a defensive display in trouncing Buducnost VOLI Podgorica 44-68 on Wednesday at Moraca to move into a tie for first place in Group C at the halfway points of the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season. Bayern won its third straight game and raised its record to 3-1 to join UCAM Murcia atop the table. Buducnost remained last among five teams at 0-4 after suffering its worst-ever offensive output in a EuroCup game. Devin Booker led Bayern with 10 points, Vladimir Lucic scored 9 points and Reggie Redding dished 7 assists and collected 4 steals. Boris Savovic paced Buducnost with 12 points and 6 rebounds and J.R. Reynolds added 10 points. Bayern outrebounded the home side 40-27 and dished 20 assists to Buducnost’s 9.

The hosts kept it close in the opening minutes, but an 0-8 Bayern run helped the visitors to a 12-21 cushion at the end of the opening quarter. Bayern held the hosts to just 5 second-quarter points in taking a 17-31 halftime lead. Booker took charge with 6 points in a 0-11 third-quarter run that made it 22-46. The difference stood at 30-50 at the end of the third quarter and Bayern cruised the rest of the way.

"They were better than us in all aspects. We are in this group far below the other teams, if you look at things realistically. The boys would blame their failure to respond to the Bayern game. The visitors showed how to play aggressively in defense. In this match we could see what is the difference between the ABA League and EuroCup. We are far from this level. This is a bitter defeat, but as long as there is hope."
