The first game of the season in Group B was no contest at all, as Turkish champions Ulker defended their home court and then some on Thursday with a resounding 107-74 victory over Kinder London Towers of England. Ulker didn't give London a minute's breathing room. Despite missing starting big man Bud Eley, the hosts jumped ahead 28-15 after one quarter, 54-30 at the half and hit a 40-point lead, 74-33, in the middle of the third quarter. By then, it was a question of time. London expected to have trouble inside, and Ulker center Asim Pars gave it to them. He finished with 28 points to lead all scorers, hitting 12 of 17 shots, all two-pointers. He also pulled 7 rebounds. Forward Haluk Yildrim added 14 points for the winners, while Jeff Kent led London with 15 points and 7 rebounds. It is safe to assume that whatever else happens Thursday in Group, Ulker will be the provisional leader based on its winning margin of 43 points.

Head Coaches

DIDIN, MURAT
Ulker
"To start the Euroleague with a win is very important for us. We played very good defense and we hurt the London team with fastbreaks especially. My players really put on a show. London was unable to stop our forwards because of their speed. It is London's first game and they will recover in the future. Despite playing without Bud Eley, Asim Pars did a good job inside, and I think we'll play even better."
FRATTIN, LINO
Kinder London Towers
"To play against such a loud fans, always chanting like they were tonight, I think it intimidated my players some. We let them play their game right away. We know that Ulker is a good team, at the top in Turkey, and that it would be hard to beat them at home. We have to forget about this game and think about the future of what we can do in this league. I hope we will see improvement from now on."

Players

PARS, ASIM
Ulker
"Before the game, I felt a little stressed, under pressure maybe because Bud Eley wasn't playing, but after the first few minutes I realized I was going to play well. To be the best scorer means nothing for me. We played wonderful as a team. I congratulate my teammates. Harun Erdenay scored few points but he and Roberts Stelmahers together controlled the game and the tempo for us."
WHITE, JOHN
Kinder London Towers
"There was a big gap between the two teams. Ulker might be two or three times better than us. We struggled to score and we couldn't stop their fastbreak, especially in the first half. We started playing like we could in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late for us."
