U18 Olympiacos Piraeus secured its first victory ever in the Euroleague Basketball ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT by beating U18 Brose Bamberg 74-89 at the ANGT Munich. Nikos Arsenopoulos poured in 41 points as Olympiacos wasted an 18-point lead but still won to even its record in Group A at 1-1. The 41 points is the third-most ever in a single ANGT game, trailing Dragan Bender’s 43 from December 29, 2014 for U18 Maccabi Tel Aviv and Morgan Stilma’s 42 points for U18 Unicaja Malaga on January 7, 2018. Aleksej Pokusevski added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks in the club’s first win in the competition. Olympiacos went 0-3 at the ANGT Finals in 2007. Brose dropped to 1-1 despite Henri Drell scoring 19 points while Joshua Obiesie had 16 points, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

Arsenopoulos nailed two three-pointers in helping Olympiacos go up 7-10. He pushed his first quarter tally to 13 points for a 16-19 lead. Obiesie hit 10 points in the first stanza in knotting it at 21-21 with Olympiacos ahead 23-25 after 10 minutes. Drell scored 8 straight points in putting Brose back ahead 34-29. But Brose failed to score a field goal for the final 7:27 minutes of the first half and Arsenopoulos, Pokusevski and Andreas Roumeliotis all drained three-pointers in 3-25 Olympiacos finish to the second quarter for a 37-51 advantage at the break.

A three-point play from Arsenopoulos increased the lead to 37-59 and it was still 45-61 when Kay Bruhnke and Drell combined for 9 points in a 14-3 Brose surge to cut it to 59-64. Olympiacos was still up 62-67 after three quarters. Drell hit for 6 points early in the fourth as Brose finally went ahead 70-69. Georgios Balis answered to put Olympiacos back up and then Arsenopoulos tallied 13 points in the final 4 minutes.
