BK Ventspils held on for a hard-fought 89-74 home win over Besiktas ColaTurka on Tuesday to improve to 3-3 in Group B. Uvis Helmanis made 5-of-7 from downtown to finish with 19 points to lead Ventspils. The game was back-and-forth for three quarters, with each team holding the lead numerous times, until the hosts used a 13-2 fourth-quarter run to put the game away. Justin Love added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Ntousan Koutsopoulos finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Akselis Vairogs had 12 and Eddie Shannon 9 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Aubrey Reese had 22 for Besiktas, which dropped to 2-4 in the standings. Erdal Bibo added 19 in his ULEB Cup debut and Cevher Ozer finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Besiktas won the opening tip and scored first via Brooks Sales. Koutsopoulos got Ventspils on the board with a jumper and then gave the hosts their first lead with a triple. Bibo came back with three the hard way for Besiktas as the lead started to switch hands on nearly every possession. Neither team led by more than a basket until Rebii Baris Guney's three-pointer put the visitors on top 21-26 with a minute left in the first quarter. But Shannon's free throw brought Ventspils within 23-26 at the end of a first quarter that saw 15 lead changes and five ties. Besiktas held on to its narrow lead for much of the second period, peaking at 33-39 on a pair of Reese free throws with two-and-a-half minutes left in the half. However Ventspils came back with a 7-0 run on baskets by Justin Love, Darlon Johnson and Koutsopoulos to take a 40-39 advantage at halftime.

The back-and-forth pattern continued early in the third period, until Eddie Shannon capped a 7-0 run that put Ventspils up 52-47. Reese drilled a three to bring Besiktas right back. Helmanis converted threes on either side of the third quarter, giving Ventspils the lead for good. Levent Bilgin got Besiktas to 66-63 before Raimonds Gabrans sparked a 13-2 run that put the game out of reach. Love played a big role down the stretch, coming up with the baskets needed to counter-balance Djuro Ostojic's comeback attempts as the lead reached 15 points and remained that way till the end.

Ventspils
"It was a very important game for us both for the result and psychologically. After we lost our last game in Riga, the players were under pressure and I am thankful that they were able to cope with it – they were focused and ready for the game. And they succeeded to show a game that spectators like and a game that I like."
DIDIN, MURAT
Besiktas Istanbul
"First of all, my congratulations to Ventspils. It was nice to play basketball here – good spectators, good atmosphere. Secondly, we did our best and played hard, but we couldn’t break Ventspils' defense. Besides, we have some trouble with our players and it was almost like 5-6 players game from our side. Still, we have 4 more games ahead and we'll do our best."

Players
