Armani Junior Milan gave the home fans a reason to celebrate as the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Tournament - Milan host beat Zalgiris Kaunas 62-59 in first day action in Group B. Diego Flaccadori paced Milan with 17 points while Alberto Cacace scored 14 points in the win. The duo combined for 11 of Milan’s final 13 points of the game. Martynas Echodas was the only Zalgiris player in double figures with 23 points to go with nine rebounds and a performance index ranking of 30. The game went back and forth until Flaccadori and Cacace took over as there were 12 lead changes and 10 ties in the contest. Neither team could open a lead larger than three points in the first quarter, which ended with Zalgiris up 17-14. Kaunas three times pushed the margin to four points in the second quarter, including the halftime score of 30-26. Zalgiris was ahead 36-32 when Milan put together a 6-0 run to open a 38-36 lead. The game was knotted at 40-40 after 30 minutes. Kaunas was leading 48-44 and was still ahead 52-49 when the Milan duo took charge. Flaccadori scored two layups to give Milan the lead and a jumper increased the margin to 59-53 with 41 seconds left. And then Cacace made three of four free throws in the final 21 seconds to ice the game.
