Bojan Dubljevic - Valencia Basket EC13 (photo Paris Levallois)Two-time Eurocup champion Valencia Basket Club rocked steady on the road to open a new season by easily stopping competition debutante Paris Levallois 68-85 in Group C. With its three-point shooters sharp early, Valencia raced in front and established double-digit leads before halftime that lasted most of the rest of the game. Oliver Lafayette led the Valencia bombing practice by making 5 of 7 three-pointers on his way to 17 points, 8 assists and 3 steals. Bojan Dubjlevic scored inside and out to the tune of 16 points, while Sam Van Rossom made 4 triples among his 14 points. Rafa Martinez with 14 points and Pablo Aguilar with 10 gave their team five double-figure scorers as Valencia made 14 of 27 three-pointers on the night. Paris was equally efficient from the arc, making 10 of 20, as Daniel Ewing and Giovan Oniangue topped the hosts' scorers with 10 points each.

A pair of triples by Van Rossom blasted Valencia ahead 4-8 to start the game and 5 minutes of shutout defense soon gave the visitors a double-digit lead on the second from downtown by Lafayette on their way to a 10-19 advantage after 10 minutes. Lafayette scored 5 points in a row to make it 17-28 before Dubljevic got in on the three-point act, too, among his 7 points in a 3-19 run to close the second quarter with Valencia in charge, 29-45. The difference hit 30-48 on a Martinez three-pointer before Landing Sane revived Paris with 3 triples of his own to make it 43-50. It remained a single-digit difference until Lafayette cranked up 2 shots in a row from the arc as Valencia restored a 51-66 advantage through 30 minutes. With 5 points in a row by Aguilar early in the final quarter, Valencia was up 55-73 and made sure to match Paris shot-for-shot the rest of the way to keep the lead from being threatened down the stretch.

Paris Levallois
"It’s been a great basketball game tonight. Valencia had a very high shooting percentage. We have nothing to say tonight, they were better than us. Some players could have increased their game level, but we have to learn from this game. We did a better second half, where we competed with the visitors."
PERASOVIC, VELIMIR
Valencia Basket Club
"It’s always easier when we start a game well. We did have to deal with the hosts making a comeback, but we did that well with our good defense."
