Panellinios kept its Last 16 hopes alive with a 72-77 road win at Greek League rival Aris BSA 2003. Djuro Ostojic and Manolis Papamakarios posted 15 points each as Panellinios improved to 2-3. However head coach Ilias Zouros’s men will still need to win next week and get some help from others to have a shot at advancing. It was a close encounter that featured four lead changes in the fourth quarter alone and came down to the closing seconds, when a clutch three-pointer by Brad Newley and free throws by Ostojic and Jurica Golemac sealed the win. Anthony Grundy recorded 9 points and 7 assists to motor the Panellinios attack. Ivan Radenovic and Stevan Nadjfeji also score 9 each for the winners. Dimitris Tsaldaris bagged 22 points on an incredible 5-from-6 from behind the arc, while Lazaros Agadakos and Nikos Argyropoulos scored 13 points apiece in defeat.

Panellinios started strong and took a 2-8 lead thanks to a dominant Ostojic who had already scored three baskets in the paint. The guests remained in charge at 10-15 till Keydren Clark stepped up for Aris to connect for 5 straight points to tie it at 17 points after ten minutes. The momentum was now clearly in favor of the hosts; Agadakos and Argyropoulos combined to lead them to a 24-19 advantage. But, the battle remained balanced; Dimitris Kalaitzidis came in off the bench to bring energy for Panellinios. As a result, a layup by Nadjfeji helped the visitors come within 29-28. Nadjfeji sooon hit a tripled as Panellinios regained the lead. Aris was now having trouble setting up its offense and was held scoreless for more than five minutes during which Panellinios scored 13 points for a 29-37 advantage. Tsaldaris connected to make it 31-37 by halftime.

Ostojic scored 5 points in less than three minutes to make it 34-42 early in the third period. Tsaldaris fired in back-to-back triples to bring Aris within 2, but Papamakarios scored 5 in a row to answer back. Tsaldaris was now in the zone, though; he added another pair of three-pointers and a pair of free throws to tie it at 50-50 before the third quarter ended at 54-55 in favor of Panellinios. The lead changed hands four times in as many minutes in the beginning of the last period. Argyropoulos was offering offensive solutions fro Aris, but when Newley sent one in from behind the arc, Panellinios had a 65-70 edge. Golemac put the visitors infront 68-74 and as time was running Aris had to hurry. Tsaldaris and Nikos Barlos cut it soon to 72-74, but Ostojic and Golamac were there to sink three free-throws and seal a 72-77 road win for Panellinios.

"Congratulations to Panellinios, because they played a very good game and deserved to win. I think that we lost the game very early, in the fifth minute, because we didn't have the rhythm needed to make the things as we are used to. Although the score at the end of the first half was tied at 17, the things didn't work for us. We still have the chance in our hands and this is something familiar in the European competitions. We have to go to Israel and win."
ZOUROS, ILIAS
Panellinios Athens
"I would like to congratulate my players, because they recovered and came back after a difficult period and a kind of crisis we had to manage. We came out serious and I think that the result is fair. This victory might mean a lot or nothing! But to be honest it means a lot for our team, because it is not easy for any team to down Aris at their home court. The situation in the group is not clear, after all that happened in Ankara, so we have to wait the decision of the judge."

"We didn't manage to seal our qualification tonight, but we have one more opportunity next week in Israel. We have to go there and play with heart and passion. We played better in the second half, but Panelinios had a very smart and effective match and their victory is fair."
