Le Mans Sarthe Basket stayed perfect away from home, hitting 12 three-pointers while leading from start to finish, and downing Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck 67-79 on Tuesday. Win improved Le Mans to 3-1, for at least a share of the second place in Group A, while Artland drops to 1-3 in the fifth place. The visitors used couple of big runs in the first quarter to open up 14-32 advantage and never looked back. Dashaun Wood paced the winners with 19 points and 6 assists. Vaughn Duggins netted 13, Rayshawn Terry had 12 points plus 8 rebounds, while J.P. Batista chipped in with 10. Guido Grunheid scored 11 for the hosts, and Michael Wenzl added 10 in defeat.
In the opening minutes, Batista and Pape Sy combined to score 12 points from close range, and Wood nailed a triple as Le Mans started the game with 7-15. Antonio Graves and Wenzl got the hosts going a bit, but what followed was a 3-18 run by the visitors. Wood, Charles Kahudi and Duggins all hit from downtown, Terry scored twice, and Dounia Issa capped the quarter with a layup for 14-32. Antoine Eito nailed a triple at the start of the second, making it 21-point affair, before Anthony King made a basket-plus-foul and David Holston hit a three-pointer for Artland. As King led the hosts, more three-pointers, from Chad Topper and Lawrence Hill, helped cut it to 34-43, but before half’s end, Terry and Wood hit more triples for 35-50 halftime lead. After the break, Wood scored 7 points, including a three-pointer, extending it to 39-59. Grunheid and Wenzl answered from inside, cutting the deficit, and the host were within 46-62 after three quarters. More baskets from Grunheid, and triples from Acha Njei and Topper cut it to 61-68 with little over 3 minutes to go. After Terry nailed a three-pointer, Hill’s put-back made it 67-73, giving hope to the hosts, but Duggins also scored from downtown with 60 seconds left, sealing the deal.
