Bilbao Basket remained unbeaten with a comfortable 77-67 win over Elan Chalon sur Saone on Tuesday. Bilbao improved to 4-0 atop of the Group B standings, while Elan Chalon dropped to 1-3.The hosts pulled away to a double-digit lead in the first quarter, and behind 16 points plus 6 rebounds from German Gabriel, advantage reached 19 points in the second and third quarters, before the visitors rallied. Chalon closed within 68-61, but Bilbao’s defense allowed only 6 points the rest of the way. Antanas Kavaliauskas had 12 points plus 8 rebounds in victory, while Alex Mumbru and Axel Hervelle each scored 9. A.J. Slaughter led the visitors with 19 points and 7 assists, Josh Bostic scored 13, and Jon Brockman 10 in defeat.

The hosts had control of the game from the start, getting to the foul line often. Bilbao made 8 of 9 free throws in the opening 4 minutes for 16-8, before triples from Mumbru and Gabriel extended it to 27-14 after 10 minutes. Clint Capela scored 6 points for Chalon at the start of the second quarter, but Dairis Bertans and Gabriel nailed three-pointers for the hosts, and baskets from Kavaliauskas, Roger Grimau and Mamadou Samb made it 41-23. A triple from Mareks Jurevicus helped Chalon cut it to 43-29 at halftime, but Kavaliauskas and Hervelle pushed the lead back to 50-31 at the start of the third quarter. But Chalon answered, as Bostic and Steed Tchicamboud hit triples on both ends of a 0-10 run that halved the deficit. Slaughter hit a jumper and a triple, closing within 58-50 late in the third, and a jumper from Aboudou Jordan cut it to 64-57in the fourth. Grimau and Gabriel added to Bilbao’s tally, but Brockman and Tchicamboud answered, making sure Chalon does not go away easily. However, Bilbao put it out of reach with a jumper and a triple from Raul Lopez for 73-61, as the hosts went on to close out the game.
