Real never gives Fenerbahce a chance in second win

U18 Real Madrid was never threatened in coasting to a 48-114 victory over U18 Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul to improve to 2-0 in Group B of the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Istanbul. Matteo Spagnolo poured in 14 points for Real, which took the first quarter 8-30 and will enter its Round 3 showdown with U18 Zalgiris Kaunas knowing the winner will advance to Sunday’s first-place game. Five other players scored in double figures for the 2015 and 2019 U18 continental champion, including Eli Ndiaye and Baba Miller both with 13 points, Henri Veesaar with 11 points and 13 rebounds, Nikolas Cebrian 11 and Ismaila Diagne and Owen Aquino both with 10 points. Fenerbahce had Eren Deniz collect 10 points but they were not enough as the Turkish team fell to 0-2 in the group.

Ulas Merdoglu scored four points as Fenerbahce was close in the opening minutes 4-7. Real did not wait long and Ndiaye poured in six points in a 2-13 surge to go ahead 6-20. And Real closed the first quarter on a 0-10 run over the final 3:43 minutes for a 8-30 cushion. Berkay Yilmaz picked up five points in a 9-0 surge to get Fenerbahce within 19-34. Real took a timeout and scored 19 of the next 22 points for a 22-53 advantage. The Spanish powerhouse went into the break up 25-53.

Deniz hit a three-pointer early in the second half but Real’s defense shut down shop, giving up just one free throw the final 8:42 minutes of the third quarter and nailing five three-pointers in a 1-24 finish to the frame and a 29-82 lead. Fenerbahce scored a little more consistently in the fourth quarter as Sayhan Yetkin cut the deficit to 40-90. Real was unimpressed and scored the next nine points as it just went through the gears.
