It was going to happen one of these days. Charleroi was going to combine its heady play on the road with the advantage of playing at home. That day came on Wednesday, as Charleroi not only jumped in the win column for the first time, but did so by knocking out Group A co-leader Efes Pilsen. The final score was 79-75 and concentration was the key. Charleroi led from tipoff to buzzer with Louis Rowe propelling his team at the start and big men John Jerome and Roger Huggins taking over from there. Efes had a long way back from almost being doubled, 40-21, just 15 minutes into the game. To fall four points shy at the end, however, drops Efes to 4-2. Only a loss by Olympiakos on Thursday at Maccabi Tel Aviv will let Efes keep a piece of first place. Charleroi, meanwhile, registers its first win after some very good road wins. Jerome led all scorers with 24 points for Charleroi. Huggins added 19, while Rowe was held to 14 after a 12-point first quarter. For Efes, Saulius Stombergas had 21 points, Kaspars Kambala 17 and Omer Onan 11.
