In a battle for survival between two winless teams, Igokea Alekandrovac defeated Lukoil Academic Sofia on the road on Wednesday night by 61-70. The win lifts Igokea to a 1-3 record in Group E with options for the next phase, while Lukoil drops to 0-4 and really needs to regroup if it wants to stay alive in the Eurocup. Uros Nikolic led the winners with his 19 points plus 10 boards, newcomer Teddy Gipson chipped in with 11 and Goran Gajovic landed 10. For Lukoil, Filip Videnov led the way with 14 points and Davin White posted 12. It all came down to the last minute but the hosts missed four straight offenses and Igokea sealed the win from the line.

Igokea Aleksandrovac started with the upper hand at a 0-4, but Davin White hit the three for Lukoil, 5-6. Uros Nikolic was the main pillar of the guests in the first quarter and the reason they were leading 16-19 after the first 10 minutes. Filip Videnov emerged in the second quarter for Lukoil as he was soon up to 8 points giving his team a small lead of 23-22, but Nikolic was still hitting hard for Igokea. With 11 turnovers in 18 minutes, Lukoil had to give in, at least temporarily, and the guests took the lead once more with four straight points by, of course, Nikolic, 29-33. A last minute barrage of points on each side left things standing at 34-36 at the break. In the third quarter, neither team managed to pull away either. Lukoil came in close on numerous occasions, but never managed to jump ahead as Igokea kept leads as slim as 1 points, but points by Nikolic made it 52-55 after 30 minutes as the game was getting ready for its decisive phase. Teddy Gipson appeared in his debut with a couple of golden threes to launch his team to 52-61 as the clock was advancing and points came in scarce. Aleksandar Yanev answered with his own three for the hosts, and there was no way Igokea would escape easily. The game entered the last moments when Branko Jorovic scored for 61-68. The hosts missed as many as four straight chances to scoreand with 16 second to go, Mirkovic went to the line to seal the deal.

"We made a lot of mistakes tonight. We didn't play well neither in offense nor in defense. Our opponent was better than us and played with bigger desire. We had our chances of course, but we missed them, especially at the end of the game. Of course, we have to put an extra power under the boards, where we struggle, but at this period of the season, the choice is not big and there aren't a lot good available players. I am ready to take my responsibility for the way Lukoil plays and the results."
