
FC Bayern Munich handily defeated Cedevita 80-65 at home on Tuesday night to finish its debut Eurocup on a winning note. Jared Homan posted 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Jonathan Wallace and Robin Benzing added 14 apiece and Chevon Troutman had 13 for the winners. And Steffen Hamann dished 8 assists. The losers were led by Dontaye Draper’s 15 points and Vedran Vukusic added 13. Bayern outscored Cedevita 46-27 in the first half, a margin that proved too great to overcome. While both Group G teams were already eliminated, the victory gave Bayern a 2-4 record and third place, while Cedevita fell to 1-5 and last place
A layup and foul shot by Benzing and triple by Troutman helped give the hosts an early 11-4 lead. Cedevita got going offensively, led by Draper, but Bayern kept pace, pushing the score to 25-15. Draper’s free throws ended scoring in the quarter with the hosts on top 25-17. After Bayern’s Wallace drilled a two-pointer, Cedevita got layups form Tomislav Petrovic and Vukusic to eat into the lead, 27-22. But Bayern erupted with a 13-0 burst, led by Demond Greene and Homan, who scored two baskets each, to take a commanding 40-22 lead. Cedevita’s Milan Biro finally put a stop to the run with in a layup and a foul shot, followed by free throws by Matjaz Smodis, to reduce the margin to 40-27. But that was last scoring for the quarter for the visitors as Bayern finished with a 6-0 burst and 46-27 halftime lead.
Biro and Draper led Cedevita on a 0-10 run to open the third quarter, slicing the lead to single digits, 46-37. Troutman ended the run with free throws and a dunk, then Draper scored again to set the score at 51-39. Cedevita’s rally sputtered out at this point and Bayern maintained its scoring to jump out front 59-43 to end the third quarter. The visitors regained the scoring touch in the final quarter as baskets by Vukusic, Dalibor Bagaric and Marko Car trimmed the lead to 62-49. Homan, Wallace and Hamann stepped up for Bayern, the latter hitting a triple to keep the hosts safely out front 73-54. The visitors battled to the end, outscoring Bayern 7-11 in the last 3 minutes, but the game belonged to the hosts, who won convincingly 80-65.
