Kadji leads Bursaspor's third straight win
The last Group D duel of the regular season saw the two eliminated teams in the group, Promitheas Patras and Frutti Extra Bursaspor, play to avoid last place in a makeup game from Round 8. In the end, it was Bursaspor that came out on top, 75-100, to finish the regular season with a 3-7 record, having won its last three games, while Patras ended up bottom of the group at 2-8. Kenny Kadji dominated the game for the winners with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Lamar Peters followed closely with 25 points behind 5-of-7 three-point shooting and Oguz Savas posted 13 for the winners. For Patras, Michalis Lounntzis and Ian Miller led the way with 16 points apiece.
A three by Tevfik Akdamar made it 2-5 for the visitors before the game had to be stopped with clock problems. After resumption, Kadji was getting busy on both ends of the court, as Buraspor climbed to 6-13. Kadji was up to 10 points as the guests made it 8-17. After a timeout, Promitheas seemed to play with more fluency, but the visitors insisted on paint play with 6 straight points by Savas to make it 21-25 after 10 minutes. Promitheas kept on building over what had been the end of the first quarter, with Lountzis leading the charge with support from Diante Garrett to tie the game at 28-28. Malik Newman and Ender Arslan had back-to-back threes to launch Bursaspor to 35-48 at the break, after Kadji's leadership on the court.
Promitheas started the second half with a pair of threes, but Bursaspor kept rolling as the score climbed to 45-67 quickly with the dominance of Kadji. Danny Agbelese tried to keep the hosts alive, but Bursaspor hit the 30-minute mark ahead 57-77. Miller was the driving force for Promitheas in the second half, but Peters was the perfect counter in the backcourt for the visitors to keep the difference on the scoreboard at a safe distance for the rest of the game.
Pivotal performers
Bursaspor did not have one, but two pivotal performers in this last game of the season. Kenny Kadji started the show quickly climbing to a double-double that ended up being his best performance of the season and also his career-high in PIR. In the second half, it was Lamar Peters, from downtown, who kept the guests at a safe distance with 5-of-7 three-point shooting. Peters arrived in time to play the last three games for Bursaspor and all of them have been wins. He has made 12 of his 20 attempted threes and averaged a PIR of 22.3 and 7.3 assists.
Welcome, Leonidas Kolios!
This game saw the European debut of 17-year-old forward Leonidas Kolios for Patras. Kolios played more than 9 minutes and scored his first points through a three-pointer. Kolios had appeared with Promitheas in the Munich ANGT earlier this year, but he finally made it to the big stage. Welcome Leonidas!
