Virtus Rome maintained at least a share of first place in Group C following a 100-69 victory over visiting Proximus Spirou Charleroi on Tuesday. Rome improved to 5-1 as Bobby Jones led seven Rome scorers in double figures with 19 points. After a 13-0 start to the game, Rome established control and cruised the rest of the way. The hosts recorded 27 assists to just 8 for Spirou. Jordan Morgan added 17 points, Melvin Ejim scored 15, Brandon Triche 11 and Kyle Gibson, Rok Stipcevic and Lorenzo D’Ercole had 10 each. Dylan Page led Spirou with 16 points, Eric Wise and Andre Collins scored 15 each and Wen Mukubu 14 as their team dropped to 1-5.

Rome took charge from the opening tip as five players scored in a 13-0 start, including a pair of threes from Gibson. More than four minutes had passed before Mukubu got Spirou on the scoreboard. Ejim dunked twice before D’Ercole’s three-pointer made it 20-5. Mukubu connected twice more from behind the arc, Leigh Enobakhare added free throws and Collins sank a jumper to close within 23-15 after 10 minutes. The teams traded baskets early in the second quarter with Collins and Eric Wise standing out for Spirou. Jones had the hot hand for Rome and his 2 triples pushed the hosts in front 35-26. D’Ercole restored a double-digit advantage and a Brandon Triche three made it 41-28. Wise and Page brought the visitors within 8, but Morgan scored 6 points in the final 90 seconds of the half to give Rome a 50-37 halftime advantage.

Christophe Beghin got Spirou on the scoreboard first in the second half, but Trich connected from behind the arc to make it a 16-point lead. After Amaury Jadin and Jones traded threes, it was 60-44. Triche and Ejim added threes before Maxime De Zeeuw put Rome ahead 70-47. Wise and Collins helped Spirou to 9 straight points to get within 70-56 through three quarters. Jones capped a 7-0 spurt early in the fourth with a triple as Rome looked to ice the game early. After a Wukubu three, the hosts scored 13 unanswered points for a 93-62 advantage en route to a convincing victory.
